Abstract:The availability of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) for fluid phenomena on scales is an important element to model the nucleation phenomena and bubbles growth during foaming expansion. However, it is more difficult to capture the behavior of bubbles than the fluid motion as they obey complex laws where required degrees and analysis are extensive and challenging. In this paper, our model deals with thermo-plastic expansion of aluminum foam by considering micro-macro coupling. The ingredients of the micro-macro coupling revealing the mass volume and viscosity dependency are applied on a liquid-gas mixture regarded as a compressible homogeneous fluid to build a LBM algorithm for the foam simulation. This model approach comprises the description of nucleation, and bubbles growth etc. The simulation results of foam expansion processes by using micro-macro coupling show that the model can be used for describing the thenno-mechanical behavior of the metal foaming process.
