摘要:Cellular magnesium can be applied in a wide range, such as impact energy absorbers, silencers, flame arresters, heaters, heat exchangers, and constructional materials. The present methods and issues of making cellular magnesium and other foam metals are reviewed in this paper. The infiltration method, which the liquid metal infiltrates in a porous media, is one of the efficient ways to obtain the cellular metals. However, how do the parameters of the infiltration casting process affect the filling and solidification of the cellular magnesium has not been studied systematically. The basic rules of the melt of the AZ31 magnesium alloy penetrates in a pre-form were investigated using numerical simulation in this paper. The modeling work was done by a commercial software package, JSCAST, and the calculation of the infiltration flow field and the thermal field was coupled. The effects of the pre-form materials, the pore size, the preheating temperature, the pour temperature, and the external pressure on the infiltration process of the AZ31 magnesium alloy were calculated. Based on the results of the numerical simulation, a set of the casting parameters were proposed and optimized, which could be applied to fabricate the cellular magnesium.
