摘要:This chapter aims at studying the effect of aneurysm occurrence on the bloodflowsupplying to the brain tissue. Anin-vitro experimental study was carried out based on a patient-specific aneurysmmodel of the circle of Willis (CoW). It is observed from the flow visualization experiment that, when an aneurysm appears, the flow rate increases in the right ophthalmic artery and decreases in the right anterior cerebral artery (ACA). On the other hand, the average velocities in the three communicating arteries increase obviously in CoW with an aneurysm. Moreover, it is found that there exists backflow in the posterior communicating arteries in the normal and aneurysm CoW, indicating that the posterior communicating arteries act as the flow regulation during every flowperiod. These results suggest that the characteristics of the flowin the entire CoW be considerably changed with the occurrence of the aneurysm, and the redistribution of blood flow to the brain tissue is subsequently achieved. This study provides new knowledges about the effect of aneurysm on the regulation of cerebral circulation and will be helpful in understanding its mechanism of occurrence.
