Abstract:The benefits and limitations of the object-oriented technology are discussed. Then, based on a distinction between two essential difficulties in information systems development, namely the intrinsic difficulty and the context-related difficulty, we contend that the attempts of extending OO as a pervasive methodology in full-life-cycle systems development is derived from unreliable assumption and may to some degree be misdirected.
