摘要:Carbon dioxide (CO2) storage in geological formation is one of the possible options to mitigate greenhouse effect. This paper presents a study on the influence of flow rates and pore structure on CO2 saturation in porous media using X-ray computed tomography (CT). Series of displacement experiments were taken in dolomite with the flow rates of 0.1ml/min, 0.2ml/min, 0.5ml/min at 40 square, 8Mpa. The particle diameters of dolomite were selected as 0.2mm and 0.4mm. In the displacement experiments, dynamic displacement processes and flow characteristics were caught by timely imaging of X-Ray CT. Comparisons of slice-averaged CO2 saturations along the core holder at different flow rates have been made. The study highlights that a lower flow rate will get a higher CO2 saturation. The pore structure, including pore size, the distribution of porosity and sub-core scale heterogeneity, will strongly affect the distribution of CO2 saturation. Above all, this observation indicates that a lower injection rate is needed in geological storage, sub-core scale heterogeneity should not be ignored when estimating the potential for carbon sequestration.
