Mainly engaged in research on management and technical issues related to intelligent construction in the field of housing and infrastructure through multidisciplinary approaches such as building information technology and artificial intelligence (e.g., building and city information modeling, building information modeling - BIM, city information modeling - CIM, digital twins, large language models, intelligent robot inspection, etc.). This specifically includes digital construction and management, urban renewal, infrastructure resilience, asset management, digital twins of housing and infrastructure, building and city information modeling, engineering data mining and knowledge management, intelligent empowerment of full-life-cycle management of housing and infrastructure projects, intelligent disaster prevention and mitigation and emergency management, sustainability of engineering projects, carbon reduction and green construction, among others.
In charge of many important scientific research projects as PI, some of the projects are as follows:
Part of the “14th Five-Year Plan” National Key R&D Program “Key technologies and equipment of self-elevating intelligent construction platform for high-rise buildings (Research on intelligent construction mode of high-rise building based on building platform)”, 2022-2026, supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.
National Natural Science Foundation General Program “Intelligent construction quality compliance checking, problem prevention and treatment driven by both data and knowledge”. 2021.1-2024.12, supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Part of the “13th Five-Year Plan” National Key R&D Program Key “Technique of Green and Smart Construction”, 2016-2020, supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.
National Natural Science Foundation General Program “Research on the theory and method of unstructured information management of construction projects in China based on BIM” supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Sustainability, carbon emission reduction, green building, etc.
Published over a hundred papers in world-class journals in this field, including ASCE's Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, Automation in Construction, Advanced Engineering Informatics, and ASCE's Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering; served as editor-in-chief or participated in editing and published multiple textbooks and monographs; applied for several invention patents and software copyrights.
Collaborate with a number of well-known companies in the housing construction and infrastructure industry, and students have the opportunity to participate in joint R&D projects and joint training of these enterprises.
Cooperator of overseas scholar engaging project supported by Dalian University of Technology international funds, since September, 2014.
Have close academic relation with scholars from world famous universities in USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, etc.
Graduates from my research group mainly engage in engineering information technology (such as BIM) research and development, construction management, engineering consulting in government, college and industry leaders.
