Abstract: In this paper, a novel orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) based positioning protocol with more location accuracy is proposed for cellular networks. We also present 4 suitable positioning methods for our protocol in terms of obtained range measurements. A new unified Crame-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) is derived theoretically for these location schemes. Further, we provide best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) algorithms to locate a mobile station (MS) in our presented protocol; their performance is discussed and compared according to the positioning error covariance matrix (PECM). The theoretical analyses show BLUE-based methods can approach the CRLB bounds asymptotically under some condition, i.e., they are asymptotically efficient. Finally, the relation formula of their location accuracy is given. ICIC International ? 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.
