Abstract:In order to improve the stress distribution in gravity dam heel zone, an inducing joint crack is assumed in upstream bed rock of dam body. The stress distributions in dam heel of water retaining section are calculated under different combination of induced crack distance to dam heel and crack depth by using static and transient method. The results show that the induced crack with shorter distance and deeper depth is more conducive to decrease the stress in dam heel zone. The location and size of induced crack are finally optimized based on above analysis results.
