Abstract: A strain rate-dependant damage constitutive model for concrete is presented with rate-dependant damage variables based on the experimental results, which can simulate different behavior under tensile and compressive loading. The proposed model is applied to the seismic response analysis of a concrete gravity dam and then the results are compared with that obtained by strain rate-independent model. It is shown that the variation of concrete strain-rate makes the limit strength and stiffness increase to different extent at different part and has significant effects on the structural dynamic response and safety evaluation.
