Abstract:The present letter describes a facile and effective utilization of coal liquefaction residue. Carbon nanofibers/ carbon foam composite has been prepared via carbonizing coal liquefaction residue /THF slurry impregnated polyurethane foam and followed by catalytic chemical vapor deposition treatment using C 2H 4 as carbon source. The as-prepared samples are characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It is shown that, after the CCVD process, the CF are compactly covered by CNFs with external diameters and lengths of ca. 20-100 nm and several microns, respectively. The CNC/CF showed uptake capacity for organic solvents and oil, making this novel C/C composite an ideal candidate as oil absorbent.
