Abstract: project and independent study become two significant teaching methods under the new mechanical drawing teaching. This paper introduces the purpose, practice plan and implementations of part drawing project under the new teaching model. Since it is important to give equal value between knowledge mastery and skill development, between improving problem-solving ability and comprehensive quality in teaching, the part drawing project offers students the opportunity to meet and solve the problems, thus enhancing the comprehensive quality of students and achieving the curriculum objectives. The practice has proved that this method is effective to inspire the initiative, develop project consciousness and team-work spirit of students, which has attained great teaching results
