Abstract: New phosphors based on apatite-silicate single matrix doped with Eu ions were prepared by solid state reaction. One phosphor, Ba-9.25(PO4)(4)(SiO4)(2):0.75 Eu2+, showed two emission peaks located at 415 nm and 507 nm. In contrast, another phosphor, (Ba6.94Sr2.31)(PO4)(4)(SiO4)(2):0.75 Eu2+, owing to the presence of excess SrF2, exhibited three clear emission peaks at 415 nm, 507 nm, and 565 nm, respectively. This is beneficial for potential use as white-light-emitting diodes. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
