Abstract: A facile procedure for C-C bond cleavage of cyclopentadiene rings is reported, and a series of water-soluble pyrylium tetrachloroferrates (Py-Fes) were synthesized. Different photoluminescence properties of Py-Fes were simply tuned by changing the types and positions of substituent groups.
