Relationships between molar polarisability, molar volume and density of binary silicate, borate and phosphate glasses

摘要:A quantitative relationship between molar polarisability alpha(m) molar volume V-m and experimental density d has been established for binary oxide glasses, including silicate, borate and phosphate systems. Our results suggest that polarisability per unit volume alpha(m)/V-m increases linearly with increasing density. The normal mathematical expression between alpha(m), V-m and d is alpha(m)/V-m=ad+b. For investigated binary oxide glasses containing monovalent alkali and divalent metallic ions, a=0.0171 and b=0.0774;for glass systems, such as Bi2O3-SiO2, Bi2O3-B2O3, Sb2O3-B2O3, Sb2O3-P2O5, Bi2O3-P2O5 and V2O5-P2O5, a and b change depending both on the species of metallic ions and the glass systems. An equation is presented for calculating alpha(m), alpha(m)=aW(m)+bV(m).
