Abstract:The mooring chain links may cause interlink rotations under the combined wind, wave, and current loads from different directions. These interlink rotations combined with the pretension of mooring line can cause out-of-plane bending (OPB) stresses in the chain links. In this paper, the calculation of chain's wear under tensile load and OPB load are investigated. The finite element analysis model is established to calculate the stress distribution of the chain under tensile load and OPB load. And the differences between the two results are analyzed and compared. Then the Archard theory of wear is used to calculate the wear of chain link. The wear and stress distributions are compared under tension and different angles of out-of-plane bending, respectively.
