Abstract:Ecological effects of nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention.
   However,the research of nanomaterials ecological effects on wastewater
   treatment plants (WWTPs),the important receptors of nanomaterials,is
   just beginning. Studies have shown that nanomaterials can affect the
   biomass,microbial community structures and functional genes of activated
   sludge systems,which will result in the decrease of wastewater treatment
   efficiency. In this paper,the effects of nanomaterials on the WWTPs
   treatment process and the probable toxic mechanisms are summarized,the
   future research direction is prospected as well.
