Abstract:It is important to preserve local shape properties of primal mesh during the deformation process. Differential information has been used as local shape descriptor, which captures the local shape of the mesh around each vertex. Since the differential information is encoded in a global coordinate system, both large-scale translations and rotations are problematic for linear approaches. We present an iterative method that updates primal vertex positions, the Laplacian coordinates and Laplacian operator of original mesh in small steps by implicitly controlling the weight of handle vertices, which is referred to as control weight. Our method can effectively approximate large-scale translations and rotations without local rotation estimation, and produces visually pleasing deformations with a few of user interactions. The algorithm is simple to implement, and is robust to models. ? 2010 Binary Information Press.
