Abstract:Employee s failure to comply with information security policy results in a significant number of information security incidents in the organizational setting. The influence factors of compliance effort of employee individuals need to be studied. Considering that the compliance effort level of an employee individual usually cannot be observed and measured by an employer, in this study, the influence of psychic income and monetary reward on the compliance effort level of an employee individual is explored based on a principal-agent relationship with moral hazard between the employer (the principal) and the employee individual (the agent). A contract model is proposed to discuss the combined incentive effects of psychic income and monetary reward. Several results are derived from the mechanism analysis: any psychic income potentially delivers a positive incentive on the employee s compliance effort when the monetary reward is fixed; the monetary reward can be reduced if the employee perceives more psychic income; the employee will select a higher compliance effort level if she perceives more psychic income; both the monetary reward and the psychic income should be reduced if the external conditions are favorable, otherwise these incentives should be increased. ? 2015 ICIC International.
