摘要：Timeliness is very important in express delivery; however, a great amount of expresses delay on holidays in the recent years in China. In this study, we analyzed this problem, and found that the explosive growth of express orders and shortage of workers are major causes. We selected two indicators to evaluate the express service quality, and applied the Elasticity of Demand Theory to depict the relationship between the express freight and volume of express orders. In addition, we proposed a function to quantify the economic losses caused by the delayed expresses. A programming model was proposed to maximize the profit and express service quality, and an algorithm was designed to determine the express freight and workforce size on holidays. With the data from an express company, the validity of the model was verified in the numerical experiment. ? 2013 ISSN 1881-803X.
