Abstract:An effective approach of diamond cutting optical brittle materials remains a longstanding challenge in machining. Toward this objective, the method of atmospheric flexible cold plasma jet to anti-friction of Diamond/K9 glass friction pairs was explored. We developed a plasma generator which can discharge stable, and transport by a flexible tube to generate flexible cold plasma jet under atmospheric pressure. Flexible nitrogen plasma jet of 1.2 m length was acquired with a frequency of 60 kHz, driving voltage of 7.0 kV, and gas flow of 12.0 SLM (standard liter per minute). Friction and wear experiment was conducted with loads of 10-130 N and speeds of 100, 200, 300, and 400 r/min under air and flexible cold nitrogen plasma jet atmospheres. Results proved that the friction coefficient was lower in atmospheric flexible cold plasma jet than that in air under different loads and speeds. A new anti-friction approach between diamond and optical brittle materials is established in this study.
