Abstract:A layer of superhydrophobic coating having good electromagnetic shielding and self-cleaning performance was fabricated on a wood surface through an electroless copper plated process. The superhydrophobic property of the wood surface was measured by contact angle (CA) and roll-off angle (RA) measurements. The microstructure and chemical composition of the superhydrophobic coating were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The analysis revealed that the microscale particles were uniformly distributed on the wood surface and the main component of the coating is metallic copper. The as-prepared Cu coatings on wood substrate exhibit a good superhydrophobicity with water contact angle about 160 degrees and rolling angle less than 5 degrees. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
