Chun Yang is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Science of Science and S&T Management at Dalian University of Technology. He received a PhD in Management from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a PhD in Science and Technology Policy/Science, Technology and Society from Tsinghua University.

Chun's research focuses primarily on how high-tech startups survive in emerging markets, how external environment impact firms' R&D and innovation decisions, and how the geography distribution of science activities shape regional development in China and emerging economies. He addresses these questions using large-scale dataset, and thus has developed deep interests in big data analytic methods such as network analysis, text mining, causal inference. His work has appeared in international academic journals such as Small Business Economics, International Journal of Emerging Markets, and European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology.

At DUT, he teaches innovation management, history of science in a range of programs from undergraduate to graduate. Prior to joining academia, Chun has gained 4-year experience in consulting in Beijing.
