Abstract:It plays a significant role in alleviating the increasing peak demands of electrical power systems to coordinate generation from high-quality power sources among provinces via the bulk power grid platform. However, the existing coordinating way and optimization method usually fails to produce satisfactory generation schedules which cause fluctuating loads over the whole operational horizon. In this paper, a method for formulating the peak shaving operation of power plants was proposed by introducing the ideal remaining loads (ideal solution) of each power grid. In order to determine the ideal solution, this method homogenized multiple remaining load values over contiguous periods by using two different ways, named N-neighbor combination and local combination. Minimizing the deviation between the current solution and the ideal solution was then chosen as the objective function so that the remaining loads over local period of one day could be smoothed. The neighborhood search algorithm was used to optimize the previous model, where the search step was dynamically updated to improve the convergence speed and solution quality. The proposed model and algorithm were implemented on the operation of power plants directly controlled by the East China Grid. Results from the simulation case show that our method is capable of coordinating the different peak load demands among Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui power grids. The comparison with the existing method also demonstrates the advantages of our method. © 2014 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
