Abstract:The lattice Boltzmann method is applied to simulate the mixed flow in a two-dimensional rectangular cavity over a wide range of aspect ratios (A), Rayleigh numbers (Ra) and Reynolds numbers (Re). The streamlines and isotherms at different conditions are obtained and their characteristics are described. At low Reynolds number when the flow is dominated by forced convection, it is found that the resulting heat transfer is an average of the forced convection, Nucv, and the conductive one, Nucd, weighted respectively by the size of the upper forced convection region and by the lower conductive region. An expression and the limitation condition of the overall heat transfer depending on A are deduced.
