Abstract:Working processes of a porous medium (PM) engine, based on the technology of combustion in porous medium, are briefly introduced and an ideal thermodynamic model of the PM heat regeneration cycle is presented. Finite-time thermodynamic analysis is applied to evaluate the thermodynamic performance of the PM-engine. An expression for the relation between net work output and thermal efficiency is derived for the cycle taking into account the influence of heat transfer. The maximum net work output and the corresponding thermal efficiency bound of the cycle are determined. Effects of parameters relevant to engine operation on the cycle characteristics are discussed based on numerical calculations. The results obtained herein provide a guide to further investigations on thermodynamic performance of the PM engine.
