Abstract:The joint estimation of direction of arrival and range for a near-field source in impulsive noise environments remains unaddressed in array signal processing. Inspired by the robustness of phased fractional lower-order moment and the efficiency of generalized estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques, a novel near-field source localization method is proposed. To reduce the computational complexity, the estimated parameters are determined by the roots of a polynomial rather than searching for the peaks of the spectrum. To characterize its performance, the Cram,r-Rao bounds for the estimated parameters of near-field sources in Cauchy noise environments are derived. Compared with existing methods, the proposed method can avoid spectral peak search, loss of array aperture, and parameter pairing. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to existing methods in terms of the probability of resolution and the estimation accuracy, especially in low generalized signal-to-noise ratio and highly impulsive noise environments.
