Abstract:As is known, both the optimization algorithms (including the Newton method, sequential linear programming (SLP), and sequential quadratic programming (SQP)) and the first order reliability method (FORM) adopt the iterative scheme. However, they could face to the convergent oscillation and chaos for some nonlinear problems. This paper presents a novel method to control the convergent failure of iterative procedure of optimization and reliability algorithms from the perspective of chaos dynamics. The chaos feedback control strategy such as self-locating and stability transformation method is incorporated into the iterative scheme of Newton method and FORM, respectively. Numerical results of some examples illustrate that the chaos control method for controlling the convergent failure of Newton method and FORM is effective and efficiency.
