Abstract:Optimal designs under the system reliability constraint are not straightforward due to the low computational efficiency and weak convergence of the process. In the paper, a new mono-level iterative approach to optimal designs with mixed design variables and stochastic variables in a hybrid space is presented and discussed. Unlike the classical bi-level method, the method proposed here employs a new iterative approach where the reliability analyses and optimization process converge simultaneously and respectively. Based on the FEA code-ANSYS, a general purpose Reliability-Based Optimization system is developed by seamlessly integration with the analysis modulus of ANSYS.
