Abstract:In China, about 70% of hydro resources are concentrated in the southwestern regions, and single provincial hydropower system is mainly constituted by several large-scale mainstream cascaded hydropower plants. The share of hydropower installed capacity in these rivers is about 77% of total hydropower installed capacity and 63% of total installed capacity in provincial power grid. These mainstream cascaded hydropower plants are characterized by large capacity, huge units, and dynamic operation control, etc. It will take a long time to be fully put into operation for all units. The hydropower plants with huge capacity have a significant impact on the long-term operation of large-scale hydropower systems and provincial power grids. In this paper, long-term scheduling methods for large-scale hydropower systems are presented and tested for dynamic operation control of Jinshajiang River and Lancangjiang River in Yunnan Power Grid (YNPG). It mainly consists of a unified evaluation method for all reservoirs to determine natural runoff process with same probability and a long-term scheduling method for large-scale hydrothermal system with different total installed capacity in different years. The method has been applied in long-term hydropower simulation scheduling analysis in YNPG from 2012 to 2015. The results show that the proposed methods can solve long-term scheduling for large-scale hydropower system. The proposed methods and ideas can provide a reference for large-scale hydropower system operations. ? 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.
