Abstract:In the context of large-scale and inter-region transmission of hydropower, some hydro plants are assigned to respond to electricity demand and peak load regulation of multiple power grids; and it even occurs that different units in single plant should serve different grids. This paper develops a novel scheduling method to deal with short-term peak-shaving operation and unit commitment of cascade hydropower plants, considering the operation constraints of hydro plants, the peak- shaving demands of multiple grids and power transmission constraints. Firstly, the proposed method constructs a mixed-integer quadratic programming formulation and an iterative algorithm to calculate the optimal generation schedule of hydro plants. Then, a short-term scheduling model is applied to obtain the actual schedule of cascade hydro plants with the aim to minimize the difference between actual schedule and optimal generation schedule. Finally, based on the obtained actual schedule, unit commitment results and corresponding power distribution plan among receiving-end grids are computed. The case study from Xiluodu-Xiangjiaba cascade is used to test the proposed method, and the results show that it is capable to meet all constraints of hydro plants and power transmission while regulate the peak loads of multiple grids effectively. ? 2020, Power System Technology Press.
