Abstract:Over the period of ship structure design, the structure strength was calculated generally in accordance with external load only, while the safety of structure in accordance with allowable stress was checked without considering the effects of the residual stress of ship components generated in the processes such as forming, welding and assembly. The strength of a VLCC oil tanker in different load cases was calculated with residual stress, and the influence rules of residual stress on the main components stress distribution were studied. Calculation results show that the effects of residual stress should be considered in the process of ship strength checking.
