Abstract:The effect of harmonic plane wave excitation on the vibration behavior is investigated through the analysis of a composite laminated plate with elliptical delamination at different thickness. According to the deformation characteristics of the damaged structure, the delamination model of the base plate and the upper and lower sub-plates is created using Mindlin plate elements. Virtual interface elements are used in the delaminated region. The structural damping characteristics are determined on the basis of dissipated energy equivalence. A finite element technique to determine the vibration response function of a laminated plate is established. The natural frequencies, damping ratios, and the amplitude response and phase response are calculated for different frequencies ranging from 0 to 1000 Hz to demonstrate the validity of the model. The obtained results are not only useful for a better understanding of dynamic behavior of damaged composite plates, but also for the identification of their damage modes.
