Abstract:Poisson's ratio of soil is a significant parameter which reflects the characteristic of soil lateral deformation. The importance of this mechanical property has not been appreciated as much as it deserves. The variation of Poisson's ratio is obtained through triaxial test based on local deformation measurement of soil specimen. Because the arrangement and structure of particles are analogous under the same testing method and density, the pattern of axial strain-radial strain curve under different cell pressure is similar. The tangential Poisson's ratio of soil increases when the principal stress ratio increases. It is important to establish the relationship between Poisson's ratio and principal stress ratio.
