Summary:Factor of safety is defined by the necessary and sufficient condition of limit equilibrium but the moment equilibrium. In this way, traditional simplified Bishop method is modified to use for general slip surface. The modified method and its associated slip surface search method is presented. The result of several numerical examples shows the efficiency and capability of the modified method.So it can be used in practice for slope stability analysis.
