Abstract:The effectively utilization of the coal liquefaction residue (CLR) is one of the most important issues in direct coal liquefaction factory. Also increasing effort has been devoted to hydrogen production by catalytic methane decomposition (CMD) on carbon catalysts recently. In this work, we reported on activated carbon (AC) prepared from CLR by KOH activation was used as catalyst in CMD. The obtained AC from CLR shows good activity and stability in CMD, which is much superior to the carbon from coal, commercial activated carbon and carbon black. The catalytic performance of the carbon was affected greatly by the structure that is influenced by the intrinsic mineral matters of the CLR.
