Abstract: A Voronoi Cell finite element method (VCFEM) based on the parametric variational principle (PVP) is developed within the framework of small deformation to predict the effective elastic-plastic properties of heterogeneous materials. The parametric minimum complementary energy principle is adopted to derive the finite element formulation of the Voronoi cell element and a standard quadratic programming model is deduced from the elastic-plastic equations. Numerical examples are given to validate the potential of the method developed in analyzing the influence of microscopic inclusions on the overall mechanical responses of heterogeneous materials.
