Abstract: This paper gives a discussion about the problems of bifurcation and non-uniqueness solutions in the analysis of thermo-mechanical contact problems with initial gap between the contact surfaces. Without loss of generality, a mathematical model for the analysis of steady heat transfer and mechanical contact problem is adopted. An example of non-uniqueness solutions, different with the non-uniqueness solutions observed in the analysis of the traditional frictional contact problems, is presented. The possible oscillatory and non-convergent problems in the iteration process of the algorithm are also investigated. An enhanced algorithm is thus put forward to overcome the difficulties.
