Abstract:A new method for designing rolling shear mechanism is presented based on the study of the motion characteristics of the rolling shear.A dimensional synthesis model considering opening degree, overlap amount of blade and peak of shear force is established to obtain the minimum error between the centrodes and the profiles of the blades.The essence of the proposed method is to establish the relation of the moving/fixed centrodes and the contact lines of the bodies.The mathematical model is solved using the genetic optimization algorithm to obtain the optimal mechanism dimension.The result obtained from an application on the design of a seven-bar linkage mechanism shows that the standard deviation of the traj ectory set of the lowest moving point on the upper shear blade is reduced by 81.4%,and the sliding of the upper blade and the peak of the shear force decrease dramatically. That means the promotion of shearing quality and power performance,as well as less wear of the blades and long service life.
