Abstract: A simple, generalized method to prepare magnetite Fe3O4 nanocrystals based on the thermal decarboxylation of an admixture of iron(II) and iron(III) cetylsulfonylacetate is reported. This one-pot process exhibits well shape-controlled magnetite Fe3O4 nanocrystals-from nanoparticles to nanorods-by controlling the reaction temperature in the thermodecarboxylation procedure.
