Abstract:Current laminated manufacturing techniques are mainly 2.5 dimension slices. So, the staircase effect in rapid prototyping processes is unnevitable. In this paper, an adaptive slicing method based on 3 dimension slices is discrible in detail. Through increasing the degree of freedom by tilting the laminated tool of RP machine, those slices achieved by line interpolation between adjacent contours can more closely match the designed surface shape than the zero order approximation. The results of test show that the new method may significantly reduce building time and improve the surface finish through the use of thicker sloping layers for the same user-defined error.
