Abstract:In-situ TiB2/ZA27 composites were produced in two steps. Firstly, the reaction of creating TiB2 was processed in melted Al. Secondly, as a master alloy, TiB2/Al material was used to fabricate TiB2/ZA27 composites. It is found that the sizes of the TiB2 particles are small and their shapes are equiaxed. The microstructure and wear resistance of the composite materials were tested by means of metallurgical microscope, XRD, SEM, EDS and friction-wear test. The test results show that the TiB2 particles are distributed in ZA27 matrix uniformly and their average diameter is less than 3 mu m. TiB2 particles have a significant refining effect on the matrix, whilst the friction-wear resistance of the composites are enhanced obviously with the increase of TiB2 particles.
