Abstract:2024 aluminum alloy made by EMC and DCC was analyzed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, solution heat treatment and artificial aging were given to investigate the mechanical properties such as hardness, wear resistance and fatigue. Micrographs show that EMC ingots have fine and uniform grain structure, which makes the EMC ingots have high hardness and good fatigue property. The hardness of EMC ingot specimens increases one time more than DCC ones and their fatigue strength is three times as high as that of DCC ones in as-cast state. The EMC ingot specimens also express an excellent wear resistance character, and the weight loss is only a half of DCC ingot specimens'. Shallow grooves on worn surface and small wear debris indicate that the wear mechanism of EMC ingot is abrasive and adhesive. While the heavy plastic deformation on the matrix and the large block debris show that the poor wear resistance of DCC ingot is caused by the abrasive-delimitation mechanism.
