Abstract:Zeolite NaA membrane was prepared hydrothermally on the outer-surface of
a porous a-alumina tube (pore size of 3~5 |im) using a gel with the
composition of SiO-2:Al-2O-3:Na-2O:H-2O=2:1:2:200 (mole ratio). Before
the hydrothermal reaction, the support was seeded with NaA zeolite,
which was already dispersed in diluted water glass. After several
hydrothermal synthesis steps, a dense intergrown zeolite crystal layer
about 15~20 nm in thickness was formed on the outer surface. The zeolite
crystals were about 3~5mum in size and there was no apparent cracks
between them, as observed from SEM images and permeation measurement.
The permeance of H-2 and N2 was 3.05x10~-6 and 4.4*l0~-7 mol/(m~2-s-Pa),
respectively. The permselectivity of H-2/N-2 and H-2/C-3H-8 was 6.9 and
15.6 under room temperature, higher than the respective Knudsen
diffusion ratio of 3.74 and 4.69.
