Abstract:Based on the effective width of strip footing and the plastic limit analysis theory, a variable static stress field and a lower bound solution of strip footing under combined loading were presented. A simple formula of the ultimate bearing capacity under combined loading was obtained. The finite element model (FEM) software ABAQUS was used to verify the rationality and applicability of the lower bound solution and the simple formula. The results show that the static stress field under combined loading predicts the failure mechanism of soil foundation perfectly. The bearing capacity is predicted equally well and the results are coincident with those of ABAQUS.
