Abstract:Oxygen plasma treatment was chosen to modify the aramid fiber surface and the fiber reinforced poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) composite was prepared through solution impregnating process. The effects of plasma treatment aging behaviors on fiber surface element composition, surface morphology, surface roughness and composites inter laminar shear strength (ILSS) were investigated by XPS, AFM and short-beam bending test. The results shows that the fiber surface aging behavior can be detected obviously in chemical composition, whereas the surface morphology and roughness remained are nearly stable after storing in air after oxygen plasma treatment. The composite ILSS values decrease from 52.0 MPa to 43.9 MPa by 15.5% as long as 10 d storage in air. ©, 2014, Chengdu University of Science and Technology. All right reserved.
