Abstract: A stable 1 : 1 inclusion complex of Ru(bpy)(3)-MV2+ with cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) is formed in aqueous solution; upon light irradiation, a long lived (tau similar to 2 mu s) charge-separated state Ru3+- MV+.-CB[8] is observed.
