Abstract: In the leakage accident of hazardous chemicals, the leakage source intensity is the main parameter for accident consequence prediction and the basis of emergency rescue decision. In order to obtain the source intensity quickly and accurately, many optimization methods were proposed. Although these algorithms are rather effective in solving many practical problems, they have to run a long time to find solutions to large-scale problems. In this paper, we propose a GPU-based parallel genetic algorithm for back-calculation of source intensity, which maps parallel genetic algorithm to texture-rendering on consumer-level graphics cards. The analytical results demonstrate that the proposed method increases the population size, speeds up its execution and provides ordinary users with a feasible solution. ? 2013 ISSN 2185-2766.
