Abstract:This paper proposes a novel example-based approach to consistent mesh segmentation, which has recently attracted widespread attention as a new research topic. In this technique, corresponding landmarks are first detected on a segmented source model and an unsegmented target model using a proposed signed distance-based descriptor. After inconsistent landmark pairs are removed, triangles in each model are coordinated with respect to the remaining landmarks. Finally, triangles on the target model are labeled as being identical to those on the source model with the most similar coordinates, thereby achieving consistent mesh segmentation similar to that of the source model. Experimental results prove the feasibility of the present work. ? 2013 ISSN 1881-803X.
