Abstract: In this study, organosilicon micro/nanocolorants were synthesized via a simple sol-gel process using dye precursors with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) under mild preparation conditions. This method presents an important approach to developing organic/inorganic hybrid micro/nanocolorants. The morphology and narrow distribution properties of the micro/nanocolorants were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and data analyses. The chromatic properties of the micro/nanocolorants were determined by ultraviolet-visible absorption measurements and found to be similar to those of the dye precursors. The micro/nanocolorants obtained in this work have potential applications in oil inks and plastic coloration because of their excellent dispersion in organic systems.
