Abstract:Cycloaliphatic epoxy resins (CEPs) have been used in a variety of important industrial fields such as microelectronic and LED packagings, insulation of electric generators, and fabrication of high-performance polymeric composites for aeronautics and astronautics due to their excellent processability, thermal stability, electric insulativity and UV radiation:resistance. In recent years, wide studies on the synthesis of cycloaliphatic epoxy resins have been undertaken to fulfill the increasing demands for physical properties. This paper describes the recent progress on molecular design and synthesis of novel cycloaliphatic epoxy resins with tunable functionality, crosslinking density and glass transition temperature, studies of influences of chemical structures of CEPs on thermal curing behaviors and physical properties of cured products, the toughening modifications of CEPs by incorporation of silane and alkoxyl groups as well as the thermally reworkable CEPs and their structure-property relationships. The trends for developing new CEPs are also introduced.
